Injection molding process for automotive parts
Jan 22,2025
The injection molding process of automotive parts is a complex and delicate process, which mainly includes the following key steps:
1、 Design and Preparation Stage
Mold design and manufacturing:
Based on the three-dimensional design data of automotive components, accurately manufacture the metal molds required for injection molding.
The mold includes a fixed mold and a moving mold, which together form the injection molding cavity, ensuring the shape and dimensional accuracy of the injection molded parts.
Material selection and preparation:
Choose suitable plastic raw materials, such as polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), etc., which need to meet the mechanical properties and weather resistance requirements of automotive components.
The raw materials need to be dried and processed to ensure that their particle size and purity meet the requirements of injection molding.
2、 Injection molding stage
Feeding and melting:
Feed the prepared plastic raw materials into the injection cylinder through the feeding system of the injection molding machine.
Heat and melt the raw materials at high temperatures to achieve the temperature and molten state suitable for injection molding.
Injection molding:
Molten plastic raw materials are injected into the mold cavity under high pressure, filling the entire mold cavity.
This process requires precise control of injection speed and pressure to ensure that the raw materials are evenly and completely filled into the mold.
Pressure holding and cooling:
After the injection is completed, the injection molding machine continues to apply a certain amount of pressure (holding pressure) to the plastic inside the mold to prevent melt reflux and defects caused by cooling shrinkage.
At the same time, the plastic inside the mold gradually cools and solidifies, forming the desired product shape.
3、 Post processing stage
Demoulding and trimming:
After the product has completely cooled and solidified, perform demolding operation to remove the product from the mold.
Subsequently, the product undergoes surface finishing and polishing to remove any scraps and excess material, ensuring that the product meets the design requirements.
Inspection and packaging:
Conduct quality inspection on injection molded parts according to factory standards, including testing of size, shape, performance, and other aspects.
Qualified products shall be packaged and stored, while unqualified products shall be repaired or scrapped.
4、 Other precautions
Parameter control:
During the entire injection molding process, it is necessary to strictly control key parameters such as injection temperature, injection speed, holding time, and cooling time.
The reasonable setting of these parameters is crucial for ensuring the quality of injection molded parts.
Mold maintenance:
Regularly maintain and upkeep the mold, including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, etc., to ensure the accuracy and lifespan of the mold.
Safety production:
Strictly abide by safety production regulations and operating procedures to ensure the personal safety of employees and the normal operation of equipment.
In summary, the injection molding process for automotive parts involves multiple stages and precise operations, requiring close coordination and precise control of each stage. By continuously optimizing the process flow and parameter settings, high-quality and high-precision automotive parts can be produced.
